Camp OYO Winter Hiking Trip
Camp OYO has been rescheduled for March12-14
To Troop 375 Parents and Scouts:
Troop 75 has invited us to camp with them at Camp Oyo on the last weekend in February. This will be a “bonus” event—our regular troop event for February is the YMCA lock-in on Feb 20th. I need to let Troop 75 know if we are interested, and if so, how many people from Troop 375 will attend. Please email me back by January 24th to let me know if you are interested. I need a good count for # Scouts, adults, and # drivers.
Dates: 26-28 Feb 2010. Depart 6pm Friday Feb 26th, return 1pm Sunday Feb 28th
- Scouts attending
- Adults attending
- Who can drive/# of seats available
Basic Plan
- Winter campout at Boy Scout Camp Oyo
- Sleep in log cabins at Camp Oyo
- Saturday: Experienced hikers will hike the Silver Arrow Trail. Less experienced hikers will hike an easier trail or stay in camp and do camp activities (fire making, Scout skills). Saturday night: swimming in State Park resort swimming pool!
- Depending on the number of Scouts and adults attending, we will either stay in Troop 75’s cabin, or get our own cabin. I need to give Troop 75 a good headcount soon for their planning.
Camp Oyo is near Portsmouth , OH . About a 2.5 hour drive.
The Silver Arrow Trail is one of the most challenging hiking trails in Ohio . This will be a good prep hike for Philmont-bound Scouts and parents. Hikers will earn the Silver Arrow Trail patch and medal, and get credit for a 10-mile hike for hiking merit badge. (The trail is about 14 miles long.)
Special equipment you will need for this Winter campout:
- Winter sleeping bag (20 degrees or lower rating) and pad
- Hiking shoes or boots and hiking socks
- Good quality wool or poly base layer (thermal underwear)
I’ll provide more details and a packing list later.
Call me or email if you have any questions.
